Coon Rapids is a vibrant town in Anoka County, along the eastern side of the Mississippi River north of downtown Minneapolis. It has a small-town residential feel with all the city amenities one may need a short distance away. It has a unique history beginning as an agricultural town and is evolving to become a large manufacturer of clay bricks. It wasn’t until the Coon Rapids Dam was built in 1898 that the town boomed, becoming an actual city. Professionals commuting into downtown Minneapolis can drive or take the Northstar Commuter Rail for easy access.

Coon Rapids is a bustling city with just the right amount of diversity regarding dining options, shopping, and entertainment. The Muddy Cow Bar and Grill uses fresh ingredients from local farms. It is a top pick for locals looking to dine on tasty American fare. Sports lovers enjoy access to 32 TVs to view their favorite games.
Taste elevated American fare with views of the Bunker Hills Golf Course at the rustic Kendall’s Tavern & Chophouse paired with excellent service. Everyone wins at Pizza Flame as they serve both thin and deep dish pizza with any toppings you want along with delicious pasta and salads.

Things to Do

Coon Rapids has a great variety of activities for residents to partake in, with many focused on spending time in the beautiful outdoors. This lovely town is fortunate to have numerous parks, two regional parks, and extensive trails to explore. A top place to visit is Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park, a recreational area along the eastern side of the Mississippi River that is a wonderful setting for taking a walk, a run, a bike ride, bird-watching, or fishing in the warmer months and cross-country skiing in the winter. Plus, you can view the dam amid the powerful Mississippi River in action. Coon Creek Regional Trail is the perfect spot to stretch your legs and connect with nature on a walk, run, or bike ride along a six-mile paved trail that follows the Sand and Coon creeks.
Locals can cool off in the summer months at Bunker Beach Water Park, the largest outdoor waterpark in all of Minnesota, with slides, a wave pool, and a lazy river for loads of fun. In winter, all ages can enjoy a sled down a hill at Riverview Park, Rockside Park, and Sand Creek Elementary School.
Golfers enjoy playing at Bunker Hills Golf Club, rated as one of the top public golf courses in the country by Golf Digest. Strong community connections foster programs for youth, adults, and seniors. Seniors can take an assortment of classes, activities, and day trips via the Coon Rapids Senior Center.
The community is quite festive, hosting numerous festivals and events such as the Fourth of July fireworks display, one of the biggest in Minnesota. Two other exciting events to look forward to include Movie in the Park at Sand Creek Park and the adorable Love My Pet Fair celebrating your furry friends.
